Jewelry Sparkles Across the Pond

How much do we love film festivals? It’s like a red carpet wonderland of movie stars, glamorous frocks and jewels, jewels, jewels. And much like Fashion Week, you don’t have to look too far to find one this time of year.

The Times BFI London Film Festival is the place to be in October. Europe’s largest public film event showcases the best in contemporary cinema from filmmakers around the globe and lasts for a glittering two weeks throughout the city.

This year’s lineup features the critically acclaimed, Rachel Getting Married starring a gorgeous Anne Hathaway, Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona, and Oliver Stone’s controversial look at our Commander in Chief, W. Other entries include Steven Soderberg’s, Che, and Ron Howard’s film version of the Tony winning play, Frost Nixon.

But enough about those pesky movies - what about the jewels! We spotted a glowing Jessica Biel in diamond drops, Anne Hathaway in gold bangles, Elizabeth Banks in the statement necklace trend, Laura Linney in diamond hoops and Gwynnie in a classic, vintage diamond choker.

And of course, there is Penelope. ‘Nuff said.

Anne Hathaway's Jewelry Seized by FBI

Anne Hathaway's heart wasn’t the only thing to take a hit by former boyfriend Raffaelo Follieri’s shady business dealings. So did her jewelry box. The Smoking Gun reports the FBI recently recovered some of the bling bestowed upon the A-list actress as collateral while her ex awaits his fate after pleading guilty to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. Ouch.

Hathaway is not mentioned by name in the court documents, but the record shows that two Rolex watches, two gold rings with ‘clear stones’ (diamonds anyone?), a five-strand pearl necklace, a silver bracelet and more were recovered - costing tens maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In next month’s W Magazine, Anne reveals, "It's a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden. But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me." She then tearfully notes, "I've been shown such kindness. Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone."

The good news is, Hathaway has been spotted canoodling with hunky actor Josh Lucas, lately, and her appearance at this month’s Venice film festival for her new film, Rachel Getting Married, was a glorious success.

It’s no fun to have the FBI involved in washing that man out of your hair, but it saves you the trouble of burning his stuff in a pile on the lawn.

Onwards!

Anne Hathaway - The Golden Girl of Venice

Gold glittered and jaws dropped as Anne Hathaway made a stunning red carpet appearance at the Venice Film Festival premiere of Rachel Getting Married last night. Emerging in an Atelier Versace gown, the star put all other attempts at high festival fashion to shame.

Her cascading dress featured waves of green/grey chiffon, with oversized corsages embellishing the full skirt. A flowing train comprised of mille feuille ruffles followed the star as she worked photographers into a lather. The golden tint in the fabric was complemented by a vintage diamond and gold Bulgari necklace, a tourmaline right hand ring and tasteful diamond studs. Perfection, my dear fashion hounds. Perfection.

The film, directed by Academy Award-winner, Johnathan Demme, is a departure for the star, who plays a fresh-out-of-rehab woman attending her sister’s wedding. The early reviews are glowing, and we can’t wait to see a missing-in-action Debra Winger, who plays Anne’s mother in the film.

We’re also happy to report that Hathaway has apparently wasted no time moving on from her troubled businessman boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri. She was seen canoodling with a very attentive, Josh Lucas, at the Democratic National Convention last week, and one source says, "You could almost taste their chemistry!”

Taste is definitely something this A-lister knows a little something about these days. Bravo!
