Oh how I still love Ronald Reagan, and what he represented and the patriotism that he brought to America. . Though I was knee high to a grasshopper, a child in junior high school when he began running for President, even I noticed the difference, the excitement and the love of country that Ronald Reagan brought into the White House. From the fear born from the Cold War, the gas lines, the helplessness of the Iranian hostages, to a time when we were proud to be American and had a man at the helm that embodied all that was wonderful about being American, I thank God for Ronald Reagan and his years in office for I believe that, along with my parents, they helped shape me into the patriot that I am today. The memory of the night of the Presidential election between Carter and Reagan is always burned within my memory. I can remember waking up and hearing cheers coming from my parents bedroom, and the sound of a ruckus coming from the television. Padding down the hallway, knocking on their door, I asked them why they were making so much noise. My father said, and I'll never forget, "We've done it. Ronald Reagan is the next President of the United States". What a day that was. Yes it took a Jimmy Carter to give us a Ronald Reagan! Who else could have stood at the base of the Brandenburg Gate, near the Berlin wall during the Cold War as he did. Who else could have said, “ MR. GORBACHEV, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL”?
